Our Grand Rapids nonprofit for veterans stands with deep respect, gratitude, and unwavering commitment to those who have served our country. It is our veterans and first responders who dedicate their lives to protecting, rescuing, and standing up for our communities. They are the ones who run toward danger when others seek safety. Their courage and sacrifice embody the highest ideals of service, yet many of them, even in times of need, hesitate to ask for help.
While our nation honors these brave men and women, there remains an often-overlooked group—the children of the fallen and disabled. As Brad Laackman, CoFounder of Folds GR, explains, “As a veteran myself, I was always told that the spouses of veterans get taken care of pretty well when there’s a disability or a death. The kids, though, were kind of this lost support.”
Folds GR was created to fill this gap, offering education support for the children of veterans who have sacrificed so much. Losing a parent or navigating life with a disabled parent can create immense hardships, affecting every aspect of a child’s future. Through scholarships and fundraising for veterans, we strive to ensure that these children have the opportunities they deserve. We believe that by providing the gift of education, we can honor the sacrifices of their parents and give them a foundation for a brighter future.
The impact of our mission is profound. Every scholarship awarded represents more than just financial assistance—it symbolizes the support and recognition these children need. As Joe Bailey, a dedicated Folds GR supporter, states, “If you are the spouse or the child of a fallen veteran, Folds GR will help direct you to get the help you need for your child with education.”
Our work is far from finished. With the help of our generous community, we aim to raise even more funds, expand our scholarships, and spread awareness about the urgent need to support these families. Helping veteran families is not just a mission; it is a responsibility that we all share. A strong community looks after its own, and at Folds GR, we are committed to ensuring that children of fallen or disabled heroes are not left behind.
